What is an asphalt distributor tank?

An asphalt distributor tank is a truck-mounted system that sprays bitumen or bitumen emulsion onto the road surface. It consists of a heated and insulated tank, a bitumen pump and a spray bar with nozzles at the rear of the vehicle. As the vehicle advances, bitumen is applied to the surface as a thin, even film.

Where is it used?

The main applications are spraying binder bitumen before chippings are spread in surface dressing, applying a prime coat before a new asphalt layer, and applying a tack coat between two asphalt layers. In all of these, keeping the amount of bitumen per square metre homogeneous directly affects the durability of the pavement.

Key selection criteria

Tank volume, heating method, spraying width and the precision of quantity control are decisive. Since the distributor works in the same chain as the chip spreader, the roller and the road sweeper, planning them together is recommended.
